Volumetric Survey

Quarry operators, contractors and waste disposal facilities all use Volumetric Surveys to calculate quantities for a variety of practical, logistical and financial reasons.

This type of survey is similar to a topographical survey, however, it pays increased attention to levels and break lines – ultimately giving you an all-encompassing picture of the volume of land and material present on your site – both on the surface and subsurface.

We are now also able to survey previously inaccessible or dangerous areas with our Drone Volumetric Surveys – which not only reduces the risk involved with surveying a site but also makes it more efficient and effective.

In some cases, drone surveys are even more accurate as they can collect millions of points compared to the handful gathered using traditional surveying methods.

What Is A Volumetric Survey?

Volumetric Surveys are often used by architects and engineers to accurately calculate the volume of stockpiles, earthworks and other materials by using ground or aerial surveying techniques.

Aerial Volumetric Surveying by drone is quickly becoming a popular alternative to traditional methods. Not only is it a faster and more efficient system, but it also delivers the same highly accurate results of stockpiles that may be deemed unsafe to stand on.

In our experience, we have found that the best solution often combines both old and new surveying methods, providing you with the most comprehensive set of data possible. Drones are quickly becoming an invaluable tool for delivering extremely accurate and efficient volumetric measurements.

Do I Need a Volumetric Survey?

Volumetric Surveys can provide you with a unique insight into your site, allowing construction companies to change and adjust plans before construction begins.

For example, with the right information on hand you can:

  • Compare earthworks and plans to accurately calculate project costs and timeframes, all at the design stage.
  • Calculate the volume of materials present on-site, e.g. stockpiles or backfilled areas.
  • Dictate what resources and skills you need to effectively remove materials from your site
  • Determine the amount of material already removed from a quarry or the amount of space left in a landfill.

Get In Touch For A Volumetric Survey

Our Volumetric Surveys can provide you with an independent measure on the quantities present in a quarry or site – allowing you to better plan and manage the construction process or even agree on a bill of quantities. They also assist with:

Determining the volume of material remaining, removed or left of ill for large sites such as mines and quarries.

Calculating financial values, timeframes and logistical planning.

Monitoring progress and evaluating the volume of material that has been removed over a specific period of time.
